Lowland Scotland, just near the Big Loch… to the north a few miles there used
to be a base there where the military submarines glided in and out of the sea loch.
Until one day like something from a Brahan Seer prophecy, a massive explosion vaporised the base and the towns around.
This was one of the first small nuclear wars in the mid 20th century.
It rains, the sky is a rich blue grey.
The craft skims over the hill, disturbing the grasses, lush summer plants and the bees and the ants.
The radiation had dissipated long ago.
It whirs, drone like. Like the bees themselves.
Two rubber cables drape down and suck up pollen.
Warm summer rain splashes from the grass and ground.
The hive like red emblem on the craft marks its owner.
After some time, the craft flies off back to its hive, a bit like a honeybee,
filled up with pollen.
Its jerks and drones away. Sound returns foliage and insects.
Mid summer but in Scotland autumn can be felt, in the bones,
in the mind, the cool evening air.
The pollen must be collected before the cooling arrives…
