Free Alternative To Adobe Illustrator’s Live Trace…

Today while I was looking for an alternative to Adobe Illustrator’s Live Trace, I found a great free application – Inkscape. It has a  tool called TraceBitmap where you can vectorise an imported bitmap. Here is also a good comparison of the two tools on Segtsy’s blog. This Tutorial by VscorpianC gives good clear instructions about the process in Inkscape when usine TraceBitmap. The image above is just a quick vector using Inkscape I made from a jpeg of one of my traditional drawings. The above shows the basic step by step instructions. Below I made a shoert video to give more information.  I really find this tool great as it speeds up my artwork when importing scanned or photographed traditional drawings to edit in 2d digital applications.
