Today, I took the drawing and photo references and made about ten spontaneous rapid drawings using just newspaper print and a Sharpie pen. I then took these initial sketch images and processed them using 2d editing software. I combined elements in some of the rapid drawings I liked to create an overall final composition for the etch on plexiglass I want the lines to be energetic as this is the part of the piece that is meant to show the ‘fluid’ aspects of city environments.  I also addd a few arrow type symbols and a triangular structure pattern. I like to make these patterns a lot when drawing and this shape also could allude to structures such as Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic dome. One of which is here in Montreal! It is going to be very exciting to see this design etched onto the plexiglass using a laser cutter!

The general process today was as follow –

1. Sketch rapid lines keeping in my mind the thoughts of ‘fluid’ energy in our city streets and movement

2. I took photographs of the different rapid sketches and compiled them in a 2d editing application to make a composition I was pleased with

3. I then optimised the layout for the laser cutter using the free software Inkscape
