Statement-
I am driven by the relationship between 'natural' and 'technological' forms. My motivations come from a primal energy linked to a long marked past and future sense, rather than a pastoral vernacular identity. I see my work and all human culture to rest within this context. Through this viewpoint, I strive to convey a turbulent yet balanced state of existence, by using a vivid line, intuitive placement of solids, voids and sculptural colour. This energy could be perceived as 'spiritual', 'scientific' or both.
I use and mix a range of media including sculpture, drawing, painting and digital technologies. I always make traditional drawings during the birth of ideas and sketch most days. I see aesthetics and evolution of process often to have more importance than the subject matter but this is not always my rule.

Biography-
I live on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland and grew up near the North Norfolk coast in England. These places and world travel, particularly in the Americas, influenced me through sky, land, technology and sea. My pass-times of surfing, prone paddleboarding and hiking play an important role in my inspiration.
Drawing since childhood and a BA (hons) degree in Interior Design at Edinburgh College of Art in 1999, strengthened an architectonic awareness. I then produced 3d graphics for many clients including engineering and robotics companies, I continue to offer these services - Crofton Graphics. I also made two short 3d films, 'Ant Colony 5' was shortlisted in a Tango and Channel 4 competition and 'Structures Like the Leaves' appeared in a Channel 4 film festival 'Rolling Stock'.
In 2007, I dedicated my creativity to art rather than 3d films. I felt limited with digital media, namely its immateriality and non physical presence. I returned to real materials and direct workmanship, while being able to use 3d graphics within the art process. After more formal training including metalwork courses, I have a constant hunger to self learn, question and evolve my creations through life experience.
